NetEase.com Inc. (NASDAQ: NTES), a leading Internet technology company based in China, announced in Beijing today, it has successfully integrated the Single Sign-On System (SSN) into its popular www.163.com network. The SSN System represents a higher level of service and added convenience to users of the NetEase Web site, who now are only required to log on to www.163.com once to enjoy the use of all of its personalization products and services. NetEase reaffirms its membership among the ranks of the world’s most popular portals, which also utilize the SSN System, by offering an enhanced Internet service profile to its investors with the launch of this new system.
With the entry of a single set of user name and password, NetEase users will now enjoy quick and convenient access and be able to travel freely between all NetEase services. This includes seamless access to the NetEase Community, Chat Room, NetEase Shopping Mall, Stock Forum, Individual Investment Portfolio and Netease E-mail. In the past, users were required to log on to each specific service as they traveled throughout the site. The new SSN System will make the NetEase user’s experience faster and easier.
“NetEase now has more than 9.26 million registered users and our goal is to offer improved products and services to each and every one of these users, and in the process attract more netizens to the NetEase Web site,” said King Lai, NetEase Chief Executive Officer. “The addition of the SSN System to our service portfolio is a definite bonus for our current users and another step in our quest to strengthen our position as the most popular Web property in China.”
“The integration of the Single Sign-On System into an existing Web site platform is a major undertaking from a resources and logistics standpoint, and we spared no effort in making the transition.” commented NetEase Co-Chief Technology Officer Jack Xu. “The NetEase SSN System not only makes navigating the NetEase Web site faster and more convenient, it also improves our network security and makes the entire system more reliable. We believe the challenge of incorporating the new system was well worth the improved Web site performance we are bringing to our users.”
NetEase hosted visits from 70.3% of active home Internet users in China in September 2000 and was the first portal in China to record 1 billion home page views in a month according to iamasia, the leader in Internet audience measurement for the Asia-Pacific region. Forbes Global Magazine also lists NetEase among the World’s Best Small Companies for 2001. The NetEase’s Web site, 163.com, has been selected twice as the most popular Web site in China in semi-annual surveys conducted by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC). In addition, NetEase has been ranked the highest of all Chinese portals for nine consecutive months since December 1999 on the Alexa 1,000 list.
